Dr. Sajida Munir

I completed my Ph.D in the field of Microbiology under the supervision of Dr. Nazia Jamil from University of the Punjab, Lahore, Pakistan under the title “ Bacterial bioplastic production using organic wastewater.” Currently I am working as an Assistant Professor at the department of Zoology, University of Lahore, Pakistan. My core expertise is in the field of Microbiology and my area of research is biopolymers production from wastewater. Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) are biopolymers produced as storage carbon reserves by bacteria during nutrient stress conditions. Production of PHA is quite expensive at industrial level due to substrate cost. So, my research work was focused to solve this issue by utilizing wastewater and waste activated sludge for PHA production. In the field of Microbiology, I am confident to add value, by sharing my expertise gained in an industrially advanced country Australia. This field has a great potential for local bioplastic production using waste water and other wastes as well as for foreign exports and management for pollution issues.
